New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) - Yousef Abdelghani, the Ambassador of Jordan to India, praised the relationship between the two nations, characterizing it as exceptionally strong, stable, and rooted in mutual respect and shared values. He expressed Jordan's enthusiasm for enhancing its partnership with India moving forward.

In a discussion with IANS, Abdelghani revealed that both countries have agreed to elevate bilateral trade from approximately USD 3 billion to nearly USD 5 billion.

"Indeed, I would describe our relationship as exceptionally robust, stable, and founded on mutual interests and shared values. Last year, we marked the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations," he remarked.

The ambassador lauded the close connection between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jordan's King Abdullah II, noting the recent communications between the two leaders following the escalation of conflict in West Asia on February 28.

"During Prime Minister Modi's latest visit to Jordan, we committed to enhancing our bilateral trade from the current level of around USD 3 billion to almost USD 5 billion. We also aimed to explore new avenues of collaboration across various sectors between Jordan and India," he added.

Last December, during a two-day visit, PM Modi met with King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II. He also addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum, emphasizing potential areas for deepening trade, business, and investment cooperation.

During this visit, both nations finalized several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in sectors including culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure, and a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora.

"In February, Her Majesty Queen Rania visited India. It was a significant diplomatic visit. This exchange is one of the outcomes agreed upon during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Jordan, and the bond between His Majesty and Prime Minister Modi is very strong and solid. They maintain regular phone conversations, with the last two being initiated by Prime Minister Modi to express solidarity with Jordan amid incidents affecting our infrastructure," Abdelghani noted.

"Moreover, we have a vibrant Indian community in Jordan, with over 20,000 Indians living here, and we ensure their well-being. Jordan plays a crucial role in India's food security by providing fertilizers, phosphoric acid, phosphate, and raw potash. This supports food security and the industrial food sector in India. We are committed to nurturing strong and lasting relations and facilitating regular exchanges, aiming for further advancements in our partnership in the future," he concluded.
