Kabul, March 25 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, two individuals lost their lives and eight more sustained injuries when the Pakistani military launched an attack by firing 85 artillery shells into Afghanistan's Kunar province, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

Zia-ur-Rahman Spinghar, spokesperson for the Information and Culture Department, reported that the Pakistani military bombarded the area with 85 shells over the last 24 hours, as detailed by Pajhwok Afghan News. Among the casualties, one civilian was killed and six others were hurt in Nari district, where 16 shells struck local settlements.

Additionally, Spinghar noted that Pakistan executed two drone strikes and unleashed 47 long-range projectiles in Sarkano district, resulting in one death and two injuries on Wednesday. The shelling included two rounds in Manura district, 15 in Shultan district, and five landing in Asadabad, though no casualties were recorded in those areas.

In retaliation, Afghan forces reportedly destroyed three Pakistani outposts located in the Nawapas area of Sarkano district along the Durand Line, resulting in the death of one Pakistani soldier, as per Pajhwok Afghan News.

Earlier in the week, the Taliban had accused Pakistani forces of targeting civilians in Kunar and Paktika provinces, resulting in one death and another injury.

According to Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat, the Pakistani military fired mortar rounds at the Shanpat area of Nari district around 9:30 a.m. local time, leading to the death of one civilian and injuring a woman.

In a separate incident, Pakistani troops reportedly fired on a civilian vehicle in Shkin district of Paktika, but fortunately, there were no injuries.

Fitrat commented on the situation, stating, "Today, Sunday, the fourth day of Eid al-Fitr, at 9:30 a.m., a mortar shell was fired by the Pakistani military regime in the Shanpat area of Nari district of Kunar province, resulting in the injury of a woman and the martyrdom of a civilian. Similarly, the militias of the said regime fired on a civilian vehicle in Shkin district of Paktika province. Fortunately, the passengers of the said vehicle escaped unharmed, and there were no casualties," he posted on X.

These events transpired despite a ceasefire that had been declared by both Afghanistan and Pakistan during the Eid celebrations. Nonetheless, the Taliban accused Pakistani forces of consistently breaching this ceasefire and launching attacks in Kunar and Nuristan throughout the Eid period, leading to civilian casualties.
