Washington, Feb 21 (NationPress) First Lady Melania Trump has made a significant contribution by donating her 2025 inaugural gown to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, showcasing the potential of America’s fashion industry to set trends worldwide.

At the donation ceremony, she emphasized, “The human condition is encapsulated in every stitch—representing the journey to overcome mediocrity and achieving America’s destiny.”

The gown now becomes part of the museum’s First Ladies Collection, which has been in existence since 1912 and features inaugural outfits from various First Ladies, making it one of the museum’s most frequented displays.

“In the discipline of detail lies our humanity. Everything hinges on the details,” she remarked.

Describing the gown, she noted, “This is not merely a dress; it embodies over 50 years of knowledge, skill, and creativity expressed through every thread and stitch.”

Created by Herve Pierre, the gown features a strapless design made of off-white silk crepe with black silk gazar accents, complemented by a replica of a 1955 diamond brooch by Harry Winston, worn on a black ribbon choker.

The First Lady highlighted that this design pays homage to American craftsmanship.

“Creating such a complex garment is no small task. Each couture piece is the result of a dedicated team of patternmakers, seamstresses, and artisans who bring a creative vision to life,” she stated.

She emphasized that the gown’s black and white contrast “evokes a mood filled with emotion,” describing it as “a modern silhouette that is both bold and dignified, and fiercely chic.”

The event also featured comments from Smithsonian Secretary Dr. Lonnie G. Bunch III and Museum Director Anthea M. Hartig.

Melania Trump is notably the first non-consecutive First Lady to donate an inaugural gown twice, and she is only the second in history, following Ida McKinley, to have two inaugural ball gowns represented in the collection.

The gown can be seen at the National Museum of American History, which welcomes visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with free admission.

Reflecting on her creative journey, Melania Trump mentioned, “I truly enjoy the entire design process, from inception to completion. While it may take time, the final result is always extraordinary.”

“We must take pride not only in our small acts of self-care but also in the courageous expression of ourselves through our appearance,” she concluded.

The Smithsonian’s First Ladies Collection spans over a century and comprises nearly 1,000 items, including gowns and personal artifacts from the White House. This exhibition serves as a cultural indicator of the evolving styles and public roles of presidential spouses.
