Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) Afghanistan cricketer Naveen Ul Haq has criticized Pakistan for its air strikes in Kabul, which resulted in the deaths of 400 individuals. He expressed that it is challenging to distinguish between the attacks carried out by Israel and the United States on Iran and those on his nation's capital. "It is hard to find any difference between the regimes of Israel and Pakistan. Period," Naveen Ul Haq stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The Afghan pacer was reacting to the air strikes by Pakistani forces targeting a hospital meant for drug addicts in Kabul. Approximately 400 lives were lost, and 250 people sustained injuries in the attacks. His remarks sparked intense reactions across social media platforms.
Naveen Ul Haq is among numerous Afghan cricketers condemning the air strikes that have led to significant civilian casualties.
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan also denounced the attacks, labeling them as "sickening and deeply concerning" while expressing solidarity with the Afghan populace during this challenging period. He stated, "I am heartbroken over the recent reports of civilian casualties due to Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul. Targeting civilian residences, educational institutions, or medical facilities, whether intentionally or accidentally, constitutes a war crime. The blatant disregard for human life, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, is distressing and concerning. This will only exacerbate division and animosity. I urge the UN and other human rights organizations to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this latest atrocity and hold the guilty parties accountable. I stand with my Afghan people in this difficult time. We shall heal, and we will rise as a nation. We always do. Inshallah!" Rashid Khan posted on X.
Another Afghan cricketer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, also voiced his sorrow over the loss of innocent lives due to the Pakistani attack, questioning how many more lives must be sacrificed before the global community responds.
"A hospital was bombed in Afghanistan during Ramadan by Pakistan… Where is international law now? Where is humanity now? How many innocent lives must be lost before the world speaks?" Gurbaz wrote in his post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Numerous fans have rallied behind the cricketers, condemning the Pakistani attack that has resulted in civilian casualties.
The relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been fraught with conflict since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan. Pakistan alleges that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Baloch insurgents operate from Afghan territory and have executed various attacks across the border. Conversely, the Afghan Taliban accuses Pakistan of harboring Islamic State terrorists.
Just a few months ago, Pakistan had conducted bombings in Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of three domestic cricketers. Consequently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board withdrew its cricket team from a tri-series in Pakistan.
