Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kabul, March 13 (NationPress) Recent military operations by Pakistan have targeted several Afghan provinces, including Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, and Paktika, leading to civilian casualties, as reported by Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid on Friday.
These actions have escalated tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, with the Taliban denouncing the strikes as breaches of Afghan sovereignty.
“In line with ongoing acts of aggression, the Pakistani military has once again bombed regions including Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, and Paktika, striking at civilian residences and causing the tragic deaths of women and children, while also targeting uninhabited areas,” Mujahid stated on X.
He further condemned the strikes, emphasizing, “This unjust attack during the final days of Ramadan and just before Eid al-Fitr shows a complete disregard for human principles and moral values. The Islamic Emirate firmly denounces these acts and assures that this injustice will not go unpunished.”
Mujahid accused Pakistani military aircraft of igniting a fire at the fuel storage facility of Kam Air, a private airline near Kandahar International Airport, which is vital for civilian and UN aircraft operations. He noted that this incident follows previous arson targeting private traders' fuel depots.
In a recent report, Afghan officials stated that Taliban forces killed 30 Pakistani soldiers amid skirmishes along the border, according to local media, citing a defense ministry spokesperson.
Taliban defense ministry spokesperson Enayatullah Khwarazmi mentioned that the clashes occurred in the Shorabak district of Kandahar, where Taliban fighters reportedly took control of a Pakistani military outpost. Following their capture, they destroyed the outpost with explosives. Khwarazmi claimed that 30 Pakistani soldiers died during the conflict, including 20 who were sent as reinforcements.
He added that Taliban fighters managed to seize five Pakistani military posts in the Dand Patan region of Paktia, infiltrating posts named Top Sar Khwuch Karam and Anzerki Sar.
This latest wave of hostilities commenced on February 27, when Taliban forces initiated retaliatory strikes against Pakistani military sites, a response to Pakistani actions targeting militants within Afghan borders on February 21.
In reaction to the Afghan assaults, Pakistan launched 'Operation Ghazab lil-Haq' (Righteous Fury), addressing what it characterized as “unprovoked firing” from Afghan forces across various border sectors.
