New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, affirming his anti-colonial stance, said on Wednesday, 30 April that he would encourage visiting UK King Charles III to return the Kohinoor diamond — a 106-carat gem long regarded as a symbol of British colonial plunder of India. The remarks came ahead of a scheduled encounter between the two at the 9/11 Memorial in New York, where Charles was paying tribute to victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
