Seoul, Feb 20 (NationPress) On Thursday, North Korea voiced its deep anger regarding the United States' initiative to strengthen a new nuclear alliance in the Asia-Pacific region.

The US has entered into a nuclear submarine agreement with Australia as part of the AUKUS security partnership, causing significant discontent in North Korea, which has labeled it as “a threat to regional peace”.

A North Korean state media commentary, released by KCNA, warned that “Washington should be cautious of the repercussions” stemming from nuclear partnerships like AUKUS and the trilateral collaboration with South Korea and Japan.

Additionally, North Korea condemned Australia’s initial payment of $500 million to the US for acquiring Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS framework, according to various media outlets.

In 2021, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States announced the establishment of AUKUS, which underscores their ongoing commitment to maintaining a peaceful, secure, and stable Indo-Pacific.

North Korea criticized the recent trilateral discussions involving Japan, South Korea, and the US that occurred during the Munich Security Conference 2025, where the foreign ministers reiterated their firm commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea in line with United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

A representative from the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated: “The outdated and futile effort to undermine the inviolable sovereignty and dignity of North Korea will lead to self-destructive outcomes.” The spokesperson remarked that the US is still lost in the failed past ambitions of ‘denuclearization’.

The North Korean government firmly believes that it is “not worth considering” the US stance, which they perceive as disconnected from reality, and they vehemently condemn and reject US actions.

North Korea reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its nuclear capabilities to counter the US and its allies, as reported by KCNA.

President Kim Jong-Un has consistently issued nuclear threats towards the United States and South Korea in the event of conflict, having warned in October 2024 of a complete nuclear annihilation of South Korea if provoked.
