New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) Upon his arrival in Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with an extraordinary reception by the nation's top officials at the airport, followed by a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora at his hotel. He commenced his activities in the Indian Ocean island nation by paying tribute to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the first Prime Minister and the founding father of Mauritius, at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden in Port Louis.
The Botanical Garden, previously known as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Pamplemousses, was renamed in September 1988 on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who also served as the Governor General of Mauritius.
PM Modi laid a wreath at the memorial and planted a tree alongside Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, while also honoring Sir Anerood Jugnauth, a former President and Prime Minister of Mauritius.
Following this, PM Modi will meet the new President of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, who is hosting a State lunch in honor of the Indian Prime Minister.
Before engaging in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Ramgoolam in the evening, PM Modi is set to interact with the Indian diaspora in Mauritius. Prime Minister Ramgoolam will also hold a State banquet in honor of PM Modi on Tuesday evening.
On the second and concluding day of his two-day State visit, PM Modi will take part in the festivities of the 57th National Day of Mauritius on Wednesday as the chief guest.
This marks PM Modi's first visit to Mauritius since 2015 when he articulated India's Vision SAGAR - Security and Growth for All in the Region - which, along with the 'Neighbourhood First' policy, 'Act East' policy, 'Think West' policy, and 'Connect Central Asia' policy, continues to shape New Delhi's approach to its neighborhood while bolstering historical and civilizational ties.
In addition to various events, PM Modi is also anticipated to meet leaders from several political parties in Mauritius.

After landing in Port Louis early Tuesday morning, PM Modi shared on X, “Landed in Mauritius. I am grateful to my friend, PM Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, for the special gesture of welcoming me at the airport. This visit is a wonderful opportunity to engage with a valued friend and explore new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.”
