New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) - The President of South Korea, Lee Jae Myung, touched down in New Delhi on Sunday to commence a significant three-day state visit.
The esteemed Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, welcomed President Lee and First Lady Kim Hea Kyung at the airport.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this visit symbolizes a crucial milestone in enhancing the Special Strategic Partnership between India and South Korea.
On social media platform X, Jaiswal expressed, "A very warm welcome to H.E. President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea as he arrives in New Delhi on a State Visit to India. This marks President Lee’s inaugural visit to India."
Jaiswal further noted, "President Lee was welcomed by Shri Harsh Malhotra, MoS, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This visit is a pivotal step in advancing the India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership."
Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Lee's itinerary includes a meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday, where both leaders will discuss ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors such as shipbuilding, trade, investments, AI, semiconductors, critical and emerging technologies, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections. Additionally, they will address regional and global issues of shared concern, as stated by the MEA.
Prime Minister Modi is also set to host a lunch in honor of the visiting President.
President Lee will engage in discussions with President Droupadi Murmu, who will also hold a banquet in his honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is expected to meet the South Korean President.
On Monday, President Lee will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.
The MEA highlighted, "India and the ROK share a multifaceted partnership founded on ancient civilizational ties and shared commitments to democracy and the rule of law. President Lee's visit emphasizes our mutual aspiration to further strengthen existing cooperation while exploring new areas of collaboration."
Last November, PM Modi and President Lee met during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, marking their second meeting in 2025 after discussions at the G7 Summit in Canada.
PM Modi shared on X, "Had a wonderful meeting with President Mr. Lee Jae-myung of the Republic of Korea during the Johannesburg G20 Summit. This is our second meeting this year, showcasing the strong momentum in our Special Strategic Partnership. We exchanged views on deepening our economic and investment connections."
