New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung convened at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Monday to explore avenues for enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors, including trade, financial services, shipbuilding, Artificial Intelligence (AI), energy, semiconductors, critical and emerging technologies, defense and security, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Present at the meeting were External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior officials.

Before engaging in discussions with PM Modi, President Lee participated in a tree planting ceremony at Hyderabad House as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative.

According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), "The discussions between PM Modi and President Lee were fruitful and comprehensive. They assessed the progress of the India–ROK Special Strategic Partnership and explored further opportunities for cooperation in key areas such as trade, financial services, shipbuilding, AI, energy, semiconductors, and defense, along with cultural exchanges. The leaders also addressed regional and global issues of shared concern. President Lee's act of planting a sapling symbolizes our joint commitment to sustainability."

Following their talks, PM Modi and President Lee oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and frameworks focused on the economy, trade, shipbuilding, maritime sector, digital domain, critical and emerging technologies, education, culture, sports, and fostering people-to-people connections.

The MEA noted on X, "These agreements will invigorate our bilateral partnership and pave the way for new opportunities for our populations and industries."

Earlier that day, President Lee and his wife, Kim Hea Kyung, paid their respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.

Prior to visiting Raj Ghat, President Lee received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi extended a warm reception upon his arrival.

This visit marks a three-day state visit by the South Korean President to India. Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, welcomed President Lee and First Lady Kim Hea Kyung at the airport in New Delhi on Sunday.

The MEA highlighted that President Lee's visit is a significant milestone in enhancing the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The MEA further stated, "India and the ROK share a multifaceted partnership founded on ancient civilizational ties and mutual values of democracy and rule of law. President Lee's visit reiterates both nations' commitment to strengthening existing collaborations while exploring new and emerging areas of shared interest."
