Seven Tourists in Critical Condition in Fiji Following Suspected Alcohol Poisoning Incident

Suva, Dec 15 (NationPress) Seven tourists are currently in critical condition at a hospital in Fiji due to a suspected case of alcohol poisoning.

The visitors at the Warwick Resort located on Fiji's Coral Coast fell ill after consuming a tainted cocktail at the resort's bar, according to a report from the Xinhua news agency.

They were rushed to the nearby Sigatoka Hospital, presenting with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues, as stated by the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday.

According to a statement from Fiji's Ministry of Health, the individuals affected range in age from 18 to 56 years and include four Australians, one American, and two local foreign residents.

Due to the seriousness of their conditions, all patients have been moved to Lautoka Hospital.

The ministry plans to identify other guests who may be suffering from similar symptoms after consuming the same drink at the resort.

An investigation into this troubling incident is currently in progress.

While the health ministry did not disclose the exact cause of the illness, it cautioned individuals to ensure that food and beverages consumed during the holiday season are safe.

In a different incident last month in Laos, two Danish nationals, an American, a Briton, and two Australians lost their lives due to suspected methanol poisoning after a night out in the town of Vang Vieng.
