Sydney, Jan 18 (NationPress) A 12-year-old boy is reported to be in critical condition after suffering a shark bite at Sydney Harbour beach in Australia on Sunday.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), emergency services responded to an incident at Hermitage Foreshore Walk near Shark Beach in Vaucluse, an eastern Sydney suburb, around 4:20 p.m. local time, following alerts of a shark attack.

The NSW Ambulance service informed ABC that the boy sustained injuries to both legs and was being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

In response to the incident, the beach has been closed, and swimmers are advised to refrain from entering the water.

This incident comes on the heels of a previous attack in November, where one individual lost their life, and another was hospitalized with severe injuries after a shark attack at a beach within an Australian national park.

Authorities from the New South Wales (NSW) police confirmed that emergency services were alerted to reports of two shark bites at a beach in Crowdy Bay, located 270 km northeast of Sydney.

A police statement detailed that bystanders helped the victims until ambulance personnel arrived, tragically resulting in the death of a woman in her 20s at the scene, while a man, also in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted in critical condition.

Earlier in October 2025, a teenager was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shark bite in Australia's far north.

Emergency services were dispatched to Thursday Island, located off the northern coast of the Queensland state, after reports emerged that a male teenager had been attacked while swimming.

The injured teenager was taken to a local hospital with critical abdominal injuries before being airlifted over 1,000 kilometers to a facility in Townsville, Queensland.
