Tragic Road Incident Claims Lives of Two Polish Tourists in Mombasa, Kenya

Mombasa, Dec 11 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, two Polish tourists lost their lives and four others, comprising two additional Poles, sustained injuries in a road mishap in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa on Wednesday, according to police.

Resila Onyango, spokesperson for the National Police Service, verified that the tragic event occurred at 7:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) in the Mariakani area along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. The driver and a guide accompanying the tourists also suffered injuries.

Onyango reported that the collision involved a truck and the van transporting the two couples who were en route to Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The two men tragically died at the scene, while two women sustained severe injuries, one of whom is in critical condition.

The couples were departing the tourist destination of Diani for Nairobi when the accident occurred. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This tragic event comes amid a notable rise in road accidents throughout Kenya since January 2024 compared to the same timeframe last year.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority and police indicate that 4,282 individuals lost their lives in traffic accidents between January and November, a rise from the 3,901 fatalities reported during the same period in 2023.

The primary factors contributing to these fatal accidents include hit-and-runs, tire blowouts, loss of vehicle control, and improper overtaking, which often result in head-on collisions.
