Trump Appoints Paul Atkins as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission

Washington, Dec 5 (NationPress) President-elect Donald Trump has revealed his nomination of Paul Atkins, a previous commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), to lead the agency as its chairman.
Atkins, who is the CEO and founder of Patomak Global Partners, a consultancy specializing in risk management, held the position of SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008 under President George W. Bush, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.
The SEC is comprised of five commissioners, with one being appointed as chairman by the President. The President is responsible for nominating all five commissioners, and their appointments require Senate approval.
Established in 1934 during the height of the Great Depression, the SEC's mission is to protect investors, ensure fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and promote capital formation.
Trump stated on Wednesday via his social media platform, Truth Social, that "Paul is a proven leader for common-sense regulations. He believes in the potential of robust, innovative capital markets that respond to the needs of investors and provide capital to make our economy the best in the world."
He added that Atkins acknowledges the importance of digital assets and other innovations in making America greater than ever before.
Earlier on the same day, Trump nominated Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4 and leader of two private spaceflights, for the position of administrator of NASA, while Daniel P. Driscoll, a US Army veteran and venture capitalist, was nominated to be the secretary of the Army. Both roles require Senate approval.
Additionally, Trump appointed his former aide Peter Navarro as senior counselor for trade and manufacturing in his upcoming administration and named David A. Warrington as Assistant to the President and Counsel to the President.
