Washington, March 5 (NationPress) President Donald Trump informed American legislators during a joint session of Congress that he is working diligently to bring an end to the Ukraine-Russia conflict and has received strong indications that Moscow is also seeking resolution.
On Tuesday, Trump shared a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which he received earlier that day, expressing his willingness to collaborate under the leadership of the American President to achieve peace.
Trump spoke to lawmakers for nearly two hours, emphasizing the accomplishments of his administration during his first two months in office. He covered topics such as immigration, economy, trade, health, education, and law and order.
"I am also working diligently to conclude the brutal conflict in Ukraine," the US President stated, adding, "Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have suffered needless casualties in this horrific conflict, with no resolution in sight. The United States has allocated hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine's defense. Meanwhile, Europe has, regrettably, invested more in purchasing Russian oil and gas than in defending Ukraine -- by a significant margin! Moreover, Biden has authorized a greater amount of funding in this conflict than Europe has spent."
President Trump also recited a letter he claimed to have received from President Zelensky.
"I received a significant letter from President Zelensky of Ukraine," he remarked, adding, "The letter states that Ukraine is prepared to engage in negotiations as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. No one desires peace more than the Ukrainians."
While reading the letter, Trump mentioned, "He (Zelensky) stated, 'My team and I are prepared to operate under President Trump's strong leadership to achieve enduring peace. We sincerely appreciate how much America has contributed to helping Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence regarding the agreement on minerals and security; Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time convenient for you. I am grateful for this letter.'"
Trump did not provide his response to the overture from the Ukrainian leader, who is attempting to mend relations following a heated exchange in the Oval Office with President Trump and Vice-President J D Vance last Friday.
"At the same time," the American leader continued, "We have engaged in serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are prepared for peace. Wouldn't that be wonderful?"
