New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, on Wednesday characterized the defence collaboration between the two countries as robust, indicating that the 10-year agreement finalized in 2025 will enhance their partnership even further.
This statement followed his discussions with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and other senior officials.
In a post on X, Gor remarked, "Just last year, the United States and India formalized a 10-year defence agreement that will significantly fortify our Defence Partnership. Joint military exercises will persist, and further sales are underway. This is a strong relationship! Thank you for hosting us, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh."
Earlier, on January 25, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged with a three-member US Congressional delegation, which included two Republicans and one Democrat, alongside the US Ambassador, to discuss topics related to trade and security.
EAM Jaishankar referred to the meeting as a "productive interaction" and shared on X, "Discussed various dimensions of India-US relations, the Indo-Pacific region, and the conflict in Ukraine. Congressional interactions have always been a vital element of our relationship."
Gor described the discussions as "productive," emphasizing the need to strengthen bilateral relations in security, trade, and critical technologies.
In October 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth met during the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting - Plus in Malaysia.
During that meeting, India and the US formalized a 10-year defence partnership, which, as per officials, will initiate a new chapter in their already strong defence ties.
"The 2025 framework represents a new phase aimed at further transforming our partnership over the next decade. It is designed to provide a cohesive vision and policy direction to enhance defence collaboration," stated the Ministry of Defence.
Both leaders acknowledged the ongoing momentum in bilateral defence cooperation and reiterated their commitment to further develop the mutually beneficial partnership across all its facets.
Pete Hegseth reaffirmed that India is a priority nation for the US in defence cooperation and emphasized Washington's commitment to work closely with New Delhi to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
"India and the US are continually expanding and deepening their defence relationship through military exercises, information sharing, collaboration with like-minded regional and global partners, and advancements in defence industrial, science and technology cooperation," the Ministry added.
