Tehran, April 3 (NationPress) Shortly after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced on Friday that a second US F-35 fighter jet was shot down in the central Iranian skies by their "new advanced defense system," the semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that US military forces are actively searching for the pilot who ejected from the aircraft.

According to sources speaking with Tasnim’s correspondent in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, the US search operation commenced earlier that day to locate the pilot of the downed fighter jet, which was downed by Iran’s Armed Forces. Reports indicate that Black Hawk helicopters and a C-130 Hercules aircraft were involved in the search; however, their attempts have yet to yield results.

The agency also noted that after the destruction of the sophisticated American fighter jet, the pilot successfully ejected and landed within Iranian territory.

Earlier that day, the IRGC confirmed that the downed fighter jet belonged to the Lakenheath squadron.

The IRGC emphasized that the intruding aircraft was fully destroyed upon crashing.

According to sources, Tasnim reported that the US pilot may have been captured by Iranian military personnel.

The correspondent added that there are suggestions the Americans, believing the pilot to be alive, attempted to retrieve him from within Iran’s borders. However, some sources indicate that the pilot has likely been taken into custody by Iranian forces.

Last week, the IRGC claimed responsibility for striking a US F-16 Fighting Falcon and an MQ-9 Reaper drone in the southern airspace of the country.

In a statement released via its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC stated that the US fighter jet and drone were targeted during coordinated retaliatory missile and drone operations carried out by its Navy and Aerospace Division against significant industries linked to the United States and Israel, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

This incident unfolds amidst rising tensions following joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran that commenced on February 28, to which Iran and its regional allies have retaliated with attacks on US and Israeli interests throughout the Middle East.
