Washington, July 14 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will be supplying Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine to strengthen the nation’s defenses against Russian aggression.
During a press briefing at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Sunday (local time), Trump detailed that the European Union would acquire the missiles from the United States and subsequently deliver them to Ukraine.
"We are essentially going to send them various components of highly advanced military equipment. They will cover the entire cost, and that’s how we prefer it," Trump stated, without disclosing the exact quantity of Patriot systems to be delivered.
The President further mentioned his plans to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the upcoming week to address Ukraine and other pressing issues, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.
Recently, Trump declared that the United States would dispatch additional weaponry to Ukraine, shortly after Moscow asserted new territorial advances.
"We will have to send more armaments—primarily defensive ones," Trump remarked to reporters, highlighting the intensity of attacks Ukraine has faced.
"They are being hit very, very hard," he added while expressing his dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The assurance from the US President came just days after Washington had suspended specific arms shipments to Kyiv, a decision that surprised Ukrainian officials and led to urgent requests for clarification.
This temporary pause in military support raised significant concerns for Kyiv, which is currently enduring some of the most intense missile and drone assaults since the conflict began over three years ago.
Trump's statements coincided with Russia announcing a new victory on the battlefield, reporting the capture of its first village in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region after months of military operations earlier this month.
