Uzbekistan and IAEA Forge Agreement on Joint Pathway for Peaceful Nuclear Advancement

Tashkent, Dec 5 (NationPress) Uzbekistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have finalized a pact to establish a joint roadmap aimed at enhancing diverse collaboration in the realm of peaceful nuclear development, as reported by the Uzbek President's press service.

As per the announcement, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev convened a meeting on Wednesday with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, who is currently visiting Uzbekistan.

During this meeting, both parties delved deeply into the future of bilateral cooperation and explored new avenues for practical collaboration, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

It was highlighted that key areas of cooperation have been pinpointed, including enhancing the capabilities and potential of national agencies, training skilled professionals, and initiating promising projects in sectors such as nuclear energy, agriculture, water management, health, and ecology under the auspices of IAEA programs.

The press service indicated that Uzbekistan has been an IAEA member since 1994. Over this timeframe, more than 40 joint projects have been executed with the aid of the organization’s technical support.

Presently, five projects are in progress focused on enhancing the legal framework and the potential of national institutions, as well as advancing nuclear science, medicine, and other relevant fields.
