Vientiane's Vision for a Green City by 2030

Vientiane, Nov 28 (NationPress) Laos has introduced the Green City Action Plan for 2023-2030 in its capital, Vientiane, with the objective of evolving the city into a sustainable, climate-resilient, and eco-friendly urban space by 2030.

The initiative emphasizes minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing waste management, conserving resources, and safeguarding biodiversity to address issues such as escalating pollution, traffic congestion, and susceptibility to climate change, as reported by Xinhua news agency, citing Lao National TV on Thursday.

By 2030, Vientiane aspires to be a livable, equitable, and eco-friendly city that promotes sustainable economic development, boosts climate resilience, and elevates the quality of life for its inhabitants.

While Vientiane is undergoing rapid expansion, this growth has brought about challenges including increased waste production, heightened road traffic and accidents, pollution, and a greater vulnerability to climate change.
