Tokyo, May 22 (NationPress) Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takehiro Funakoshi in Tokyo on Thursday during their annual bilateral dialogue, emphasizing India's commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism.
“Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, participated in the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister Dialogue in Tokyo alongside Takehiro Funakoshi, where they discussed enhancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism,” the Indian Embassy in Japan shared on X.
Additionally, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the discussions included strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors such as security, economics, and people-to-people interactions, all under the Japan-India Special Strategic Global Partnership. They also exchanged insights on recent regional developments, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
Misri further held discussions with Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu, focusing on strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and other mutual interests.
“India and Japan maintain a Special Strategic and Global Partnership rooted in shared values including democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. The defense sector has emerged as a critical pillar in this relationship. A robust India-Japan defense partnership is essential for ensuring a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific amid current global challenges,” according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Earlier that day, an all-party parliamentary delegation led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha arrived in Tokyo, initiating India's extensive diplomatic outreach under 'Operation Sindoor'.
This delegation also interacted with senior Japanese leaders, reaffirming India’s steadfast position against terrorism as part of the global outreach of Operation Sindoor.
Japan unreservedly condemned the increasing menace of terrorism while hosting the visiting delegation of Indian parliamentarians.
“Minister Iwaya declared that terrorism is indefensible, emphasizing that Japan categorically condemns terrorist acts in all forms, and is committed to collaborating with the international community, including India, in a decisive fight against terrorism,” stated the Japanese Foreign Ministry following the meeting.
Iwaya expressed appreciation for the recent agreement between India and Pakistan to halt military actions, mentioning his telephone conversations with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, expressing hope that the matter would be resolved through dialogue for the sake of peace and stability in South Asia.
