Sanaa, Sep 19 (NationPress) The Houthi group from Yemen announced the launch of a long-range hypersonic ballistic missile along with three drones targeting multiple cities in Israel.
In a broadcast by the Houthi-owned al-Masirah TV, their military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, confirmed that the missile was aimed at a military installation in Jaffa (part of Tel Aviv), while the drones struck locations in Beer Sheva and the port city of Eilat, as reported by Xinhua.
“Eilat will continue to be a target for our military operations,” Sarea stated.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that one drone impacted a hotel in Eilat, damaging its entrance, although the missile and other drones from Yemen were successfully intercepted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Israeli military noted that a drone, reportedly launched “from the east,” crashed in Eilat, causing material damage but no casualties.
Israeli media indicated that following the launch, air defense sirens were activated across extensive areas of central Israel, including the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, prompting millions to seek shelter.
Since the conflict in Gaza escalated in October 2023, the Houthis, who govern much of northwestern Yemen, have initiated attacks against Israel. In turn, Israel has conducted retaliatory strikes on areas controlled by the Houthis.
The Houthis assert that their military actions are a demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinians, calling for an end to the ongoing war and blockade in Gaza.
