Sanaa/Jerusalem, April 23 (NationPress) Yemen's Houthis on Wednesday asserted responsibility for the missile and drone strikes targeting critical locations in Israel's cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv, which activated alarms throughout northwestern Israel earlier in the day.
This marks the initial occasion the Houthis have aimed at Haifa, located in far northwestern Israel.
“We launched a hypersonic ballistic missile toward Haifa, aiming at a vital target,” stated Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea in a televised announcement broadcast by Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV.
“The hypersonic missile successfully hit the target in Haifa as the Israeli defense systems were unable to intercept it,” he added.
For another military action, Sarea mentioned it was executed against a critical target in Tel Aviv, utilizing a drone laden with explosives.
“We will persist with our military operations until the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian Gaza Strip ceases and the blockade is lifted,” the Houthi military spokesperson emphasized.
Earlier that day, the Israel Defence Forces announced on X, a social media platform, that alarms were activated in Haifa, the adjacent Krayot region, and the Western Galilee, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Israeli military remarked, “An interceptor was launched toward the missile, and it was likely intercepted successfully.”
However, video evidence shared on social media by Israeli locals, in addition to live broadcasts by global television networks, demonstrated that the Houthi missile impacted the Israeli city, resulting in a significant explosion and fire.
Magen David Adom, Israel's national ambulance service, reported no injuries.
Meanwhile, the US military executed 11 airstrikes against Houthi positions in the northern provinces of Marib, Taiz, and Hodeidah.
According to Houthi television, the US strikes targeted communication networks in Taiz, the airport in Hodeidah, and crucial sites on the frontlines in Marib.
Hostilities between the Houthi faction and the US military have intensified since Washington resumed airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen on March 15 to deter the group from assaulting Israel and US warships in the Red and Arabian Seas.
