Bengaluru, Sep 13 (NationPress) In a disturbing turn of events, a total of 11 police officers, including a police inspector, from two police stations have been suspended pending an internal investigation due to allegations of collaborating with drug peddlers in Bengaluru this past Saturday.
The police report indicates that these officers were complicit with a group involved in the distribution of sedative drugs.
The individuals suspended comprise a Police Inspector, a Head Constable, an Assistant Sub-Inspector, and several constables from Chamarajpet and JJ Nagar police stations.
It is alleged that these officers received monthly protection money from the drug peddlers in exchange for permitting them to sell sedative tablets.
The network was uncovered when the RR Nagar Police apprehended a group of six drug dealers, including Salman, Nayaz Ullah, Nayaz Khan, and Taher Patel, on August 22. The suspects were caught in the act of selling narcotic tablets to young clients, including students and professionals. A total of 1,000 tablets were confiscated during the operation.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused were frequently communicating with officers from the Chamarajpet and JJ Nagar police stations. The connection was exposed after examining the mobile phones of the suspects, which contained audio and text messages regarding financial dealings.
Investigators also discovered that the officers participated in social gatherings with the accused.
This issue was escalated to ACP Kengeri Gate, Bharath Reddy, who compiled a comprehensive report for the DCP West following a rigorous investigation. The case has since been referred to Vijayanagar ACP Chandan for additional scrutiny.
Findings indicate that the police were facilitating the drug trade by accepting bribes and maintaining social ties with the peddlers. The implicated officers reportedly collected between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh monthly from the drug dealers.
The accused were trafficking tidal tablets, which are illegal to dispense without a physician's prescription. This drug peddling network has reportedly been operational in the western regions of the city, particularly in Chamrajpet, JJ Nagar, and RR Nagar, for over a year.
