New Delhi, Feb 25 (NationPress) A total of 12 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs were suspended from the Delhi Assembly for disorderly conduct during the Lieutenant Governor's address on Tuesday.
During the customary address by Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena, AAP MLAs engaged in extensive sloganeering.
The opposition MLAs were chanting Jai Bhim slogans and protesting the removal of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar's portraits from the Delhi Chief Minister's office.
The AAP MLAs attempted to disrupt the L-G's address. Despite numerous instructions from the Speaker, the AAP MLAs continued to create a disturbance.
In response, Speaker Vijender Gupta ordered the suspension after naming the protesting AAP MLAs. The House was adjourned until noon amid the chaos.
The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Atishi, was also among those suspended.
The others included: Gopal Rai, Anil Jha, Jarnail Singh, Vishesh Ravi, Som Dutt, Surender Singh, Veer Singh Dhingan, Mukesh Ahlawat, Virender Singh Kadian, Kuldeep Kumar, and Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad.
The AAP MLAs accused the BJP-led government of removing the images of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister’s Office. On Monday, former Chief Minister Atishi posted a photo of herself in the CM's office with the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh visible in the background. She contrasted this with a photo of the new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, showing portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead.
The BJP responded swiftly, releasing a photo that displayed the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh on a nearby wall.
A subsequent video also revealed that photos of Mahatma Gandhi, President Murmu, and PM Modi were positioned behind the Chief Minister's chair, while the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh were placed on adjacent walls.
The Delhi Assembly commenced a three-day session on Monday, which included the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected MLAs and the nomination of the House Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The BJP government has opted to present the CAG reports in the Assembly on Tuesday. The report indicates that the "actual implementation was sub-optimal and the objectives behind the policy were not achieved.
