Imphal, Jan 8 (NationPress) A total of 13 youths hailing from various districts in Manipur are set to embark on a journey to Japan for work and residency under an international employment initiative, according to officials on Thursday.
An official from Lok Bhavan in Manipur stated that these thirteen candidates have received approval for their Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and are scheduled to leave for Japan later this month.
Having successfully passed both the Japanese language test and a skills proficiency assessment, these candidates will be employed in various industries, including nursing, hospitality, and manufacturing.
On Thursday, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla engaged with the Specified Skilled Workers (SSW) candidates for their COE at Lok Bhavan.
The SSW program was initiated by the Japanese government in April 2019, establishing a residency status that allows Indian youths to work and live in Japan.
A Memorandum of Cooperation between India and Japan for the execution of the 'Specified Skilled Worker' program was signed in January 2021.
During a brief interaction, the Governor conversed with the candidates and their families, representing various districts of Manipur, such as Ukhrul, Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from Churachandpur district.
The candidates expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for this opportunity.
Governor Bhalla extended his best wishes to the candidates, hoping they would excel, uphold the values and culture of Manipur and India, and act as ambassadors of goodwill while in Japan.
In March of the previous year, nine youths from Tripura secured jobs in Japan through the same SSW scheme, working as nursing caregivers, with an additional 60 candidates expected to follow suit in the current fiscal year (2025-26).
A Tripura government representative mentioned that the nine youths who obtained employment in Japan are earning monthly salaries exceeding one lakh rupees.
Under the Mukhya Mantri Dhakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP), the state Directorate of Skill Development aims to send 60 candidates to Japan for jobs in the fiscal year 2025-26.
To enhance global employment prospects for nursing students, the Directorate of Skill Development, in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International, has effectively facilitated the recruitment of nursing candidates in Japan.
With financial backing from the North Eastern Council (NEC), the selected candidates underwent a nine-month Japanese language training program in Greater Noida.
The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, previously honored the nursing caregivers who secured jobs in Japan.
