6.39 Million Individuals in Rural India Trained in Digital Skills: Government

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) Approximately 6.39 million individuals from rural regions of the nation have received training in digital skills under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA), as announced by the government.
The objective was to reach 6 million rural households (one individual per household) across the country.
“The initiative has concluded, with 6.39 million individuals trained nationwide as of March 31, 2024, surpassing the target of 6 million,” stated Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
IT training centers have been established under the PMGDISHA initiative throughout the country, including in the Bhiwani and Mahendergarh districts of Haryana.
The IT Ministry has also introduced the India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS) and the North East BPO Promotion Scheme (NEBPS) to generate employment and foster IT/ITES in smaller towns by providing financial aid of up to Rs 1 lakh per seat.
These schemes also offer incentives to encourage local entrepreneurship and the hiring of women and individuals with disabilities in BPO/ITES units across the nation, as noted by the minister.
India is recognized as the IT skills capital of the globe. A ranking by Stanford University places India among the top four countries alongside the US, UK, and China based on 42 indicators of global and national AI vibrancy.
“The government is actively pursuing measures to maintain our competitive edge in IT skills,” the minister added.
MeitY has launched a program called “FutureSkills PRIME” in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) aimed at re-skilling and up-skilling candidates in new and emerging technologies, including Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation, Augmented/Virtual Reality, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing, Cloud Computing, Social & Mobile, and Cyber Security.
Additionally, under the ‘IndiaAI FutureSkills’ initiative of the India AI Mission, an India AI fellowship is available for B Tech and M Tech students from AICTE-recognized engineering institutions, as per the IT Ministry's information.
