New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), initiated in 2015, has successfully skilled 16,033,081 candidates as of 2024, according to a government statement released on Wednesday.

During a session in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary noted that the primary goal of PMKVY is to provide skill development training via Short-Term Training (STT).

This initiative also facilitates up-skilling and re-skilling through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for youth nationwide.

“As per the PMKVY scheme, a total of 16,033,081 candidates have been trained/oriented” as of December 31, 2024, Chaudhary mentioned.

The initial three phases of the scheme—PMKVY 1.0, PMKVY 2.0, and PMKVY 3.0—which spanned from FY 2015-16 to FY 2021-22, monitored placements under the STT segment of PMKVY.

Until PMKVY 3.0, the reported placement rate among STT-certified candidates was 43 percent, Chaudhary added.

“With the introduction of PMKVY 4.0, the emphasis is on empowering our trained candidates to make informed career choices, and they are properly oriented for these paths,” the MoS stated.

“PMKVY 4.0 is a Central Sector Scheme. Over the last three financial years, including the current financial year (as of December 31, 2024), a total of Rs 1244.52 crore has been allocated across various States/UTs,” he further explained.

Moreover, to create employment opportunities, the Skill Development Ministry has unveiled the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) platform.

The SIDH will merge skilling, education, employment, and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

The Ministry has also initiated several measures to tackle skill shortages, enhance employability, and foster economic growth to ensure the successful rollout and expansion of PMKVY 4.0.

This includes a focus on emerging skills like Industry 4.0, Web 3.0, AR/VR, climate change, circular economy, and green economy; a stronger emphasis on on-job training (OJT) for improved practical exposure for candidates; and increased flexibility in course curriculums by launching courses in collaboration with industry.
