New Delhi, Jan 24 (NationPress) A total of 27.08 lakh candidates have received training through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 program, spanning 38 sectors and reaching 36 states and 732 districts as of December 7, 2025, as reported by the government.
From April 2024 to December 7, 2025, over 7.5 lakh candidates have been trained in diverse sectors such as IT-ITeS, aerospace, aviation, agriculture, rubber, leather, and tourism and hospitality across 34 states and 670 districts.
The PMKVY scheme is the primary short-term skilling initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Over its four phases, it has transitioned from a pilot program focused on incentives to a vast, demand-driven, and outcome-oriented skilling ecosystem.
Furthermore, 77 customized courses and 102 future-skills job roles have been launched to enhance employability in cutting-edge fields like AI, Industry 4.0, green jobs, and digital services.
“More than 15,500 institutions are engaged in implementing PMKVY 4.0, including over 7,000 Skill Hubs in schools, colleges, and ITIs. For the first time, prominent institutes such as IITs, IIMs, IIITs, NITs, government bodies, and PSUs are participating,” stated the ministry.
From April 2024 to September 2025, a total of Rs 1,652.89 crore has been utilized under this initiative.
Under PMKVY 4.0, a specific allocation of Rs 200 crore has been designated to develop a National Pool of Trainers and Assessors, with standardized operating procedures, curricula, and certification frameworks provided by NCVET and accessible on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).
Between April 2024 and November 2025, 34,505 Trainers and 13,844 Assessors have been certified through PMKVY 4.0-linked Training of Trainers (ToT) and Training of Assessors (ToA) initiatives, as informed by the ministry.
Regarding Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), these continue to be the foundation of long-term vocational education in India. From 2014 to 2025, the number of ITIs surged from approximately 9,977 to over 14,682, with 4,605 new ITIs established.
“Enrollments have increased from about 9.5 lakh to over 14 lakh trainees, demonstrating rising confidence in vocational education. The number of National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) has expanded from 25 to 33; Institutes for Training of Trainers (IToTs) from 11 to 120, with 17,475 sanctioned CITS seats across NSTIs and IToTs,” the ministry reported.
