Chandigarh, Feb 7 (NationPress) In a crucial move aimed at tackling air pollution, the Punjab government has successfully transitioned 1,200 old diesel autos to electric alternatives, announced Ravjot Singh, Minister for Local Government, on Friday.

Expounding on this initiative, Ravjot Singh noted that the replacement of 1,200 old diesel autos with electric models is part of the effort to combat air pollution in the sacred city of Amritsar, achieved under the RAAHI scheme.

Furthermore, as part of a broader initiative to empower women, the government is providing 200 pink electric autos to female beneficiaries, with a remarkable 90 percent subsidy.

Currently, 160 pink e-autos have already been distributed to women.

The minister also highlighted that to enhance public transportation and limit reliance on private vehicles, the government is advancing plans to procure 347 electric buses for major cities throughout the state.

This procurement includes 100 buses for Amritsar, 97 for Jalandhar, 100 for Ludhiana, and 50 for Patiala.

In addition, the government is poised to introduce electric city bus services in the S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) cluster, covering areas such as Kharar, Kurali, Zirakpur, Mullanpur, Derabassi, and Banur.

Ranjot Singh mentioned that a feasibility study for electric buses in Mohali, conducted by the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation (PMIDC), has been finalized.

These electric buses will guarantee a comfortable travel experience and dependable service for city residents.

Ranjot Singh emphasized that these diverse initiatives reflect the government’s steadfast commitment to not only environmental protection but also to delivering modern, convenient, and efficient urban transportation solutions for its citizens.
