Chandigarh, March 26 (NationPress) A member of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab has ignited a significant uproar by claiming that the 'step-motherly' treatment from the state administration is causing residents of Moga district and his constituency to 'feel like living in Pakistan'.
Devinderjeet Singh Laddi Dhose, the AAP MLA representing the Dharamkot constituency, expressed his frustration towards his own government during the Budget Session on Tuesday, alleging that it is neglecting and discriminating against the area by failing to allocate sufficient funding for healthcare infrastructure initiatives.
This MLA's remarks have created a discomforting situation for the Bhagwant Mann-led government, providing an opportunity for the BJP and Congress to criticize the state administration, which is already grappling with financial difficulties.
BJP MP Kiran Choudhry, in comments to IANS, ridiculed the AAP government for permitting its legislator to air the party’s grievances publicly.
“Such an irresponsible statement from an elected official is unwarranted,” she stated.
Choudhry objected to the AAP MLA’s reference to Pakistan while criticizing his own government regarding hospital conditions and doctor shortages, asserting that “it is unbecoming of any elected official to speak in this manner.”
She recommended that the party’s Punjab unit should engage in discussions and find solutions to the issues raised.
Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat also condemned the AAP MLA for making comparisons with Pakistan.
He criticized both the AAP, which governs the state, and the BJP, which governs at the Centre, for their treatment of farmers, questioning what respect they could show for other matters if they cannot honor those who produce food.
Earlier on Tuesday, some MLAs from Mann's government expressed their dissatisfaction, claiming discrimination against their constituencies.
The Dharamkot MLA noted that his area had not received any health-related projects in the last three years, asking, “Why this discrimination against Moga... does Moga not belong to Punjab? I feel as though we are living in Pakistan.”
Kulwant Singh Bazigar, another AAP MLA from Shutrana, pointed out the lack of doctors in three hospitals within his constituency, directing his criticism at the Punjab health minister.
