New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Abhay Verma, a prominent leader from Purvanchal and a two-time legislator representing Laxmi Nagar, was officially appointed as the Chief Whip of the BJP Legislature Party within the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, according to a party official.
This decision emerged from a meeting held by the Delhi BJP Legislative Party at the Delhi Assembly complex, attended by Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
During this meeting, participants deliberated on the necessity of appointing a Chief Whip to facilitate the effective functioning of the Legislative Party.
All MLAs reached a consensus to empower Delhi BJP President Sachdeva to finalize the decision regarding the appointment.
Sachdeva acknowledged that Verma is a recognized figure in Delhi politics from Purvanchal. With his extensive experience as an MLA and his legal acumen, there is optimism that he will adeptly manage his duties as Chief Whip.
Since 2021, Verma has held the role of Chief Spokesperson for Delhi BJP. He has previously led the Delhi BJP Purvanchal Morcha and has served four terms as the Delhi BJP Vice President.
Verma's association with the BJP ideological family dates back to his student years, where he was the President of the Law Faculty Students’ Union at Delhi University. He has also been elected twice to the Delhi Bar Association, serving once as its Honorary Secretary.
Earlier that day, the Chief Minister reiterated the Delhi government’s commitment to the city’s development and urged Opposition lawmakers from the AAP to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaborative efforts with the ruling BJP for a Viksit Delhi.
During her keynote address at a two-day orientation program for Delhi legislators, CM Gupta described the workshop as an excellent chance to forge a new chapter in the city’s progress and accelerate development.
“We can fulfill the trust placed in us by Delhiites only by making the most of every minute in the legislature,” she emphasized, sharing a Hindi couplet to encourage cooperation from the Opposition.
As CM Rekha gestured toward Leader of Opposition Atishi, who was present on the stage, smiles spread across the Assembly, accompanied by the sound of members thumping their desks in agreement.
