Mumbai, Sep 2 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi expressed his support on Monday for the demand of reservation for the Maratha community.
Social activist Manoj Jarange Patil is currently on an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, advocating for reservation for the Maratha community.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, MLA Abu Azmi mentioned that the government has already passed the Bill in the Assembly to provide reservation to the Maratha community.
“Given the situation, the government must implement the reservation. Currently, the government is encountering challenges. Proper groundwork should have been done beforehand. The Maratha community is powerful, and a courageous individual is advocating for their rights. If the demand lacks merit, why was the Bill passed? The Maratha community isn’t promoting communalism in our nation. Therefore, this movement deserves our support,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Abu Azmi criticized the central government regarding the SCO summit. He pointed out that following the terrorist incident in Pahalgam, it was China that extended support to Pakistan.
“In light of this, PM Modi is meeting with China's President. Historically, China has supplied arms to Pakistan, and strategies like Operation Sindoor have reached Pakistan through China. Whether concerning Galwan Valley, Ladakh, or Siachen, can PM Modi confirm if China has ceased its activities in these areas? Will China not pose further threats to our borders?” the SP leader questioned.
He further acknowledged the foresight of Mulayam Singh Yadav, recalling his statement in Parliament regarding the greater threat from China than from Pakistan. “Today, citizens express that China is behaving aggressively at our borders. What will be the consequences of this?” he pondered.
Additionally, Azmi shared his thoughts on the Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar, noting the public's awareness regarding vote theft. “The Election Commission appears to be colluding with the government to facilitate vote theft, which undermines democracy. The people of India must raise their voices against this injustice. In Bihar, the INDIA bloc has taken to the streets to combat this issue. Justice will prevail for the public. Our country was liberated to ensure a transparent governance,” he concluded.
