New Delhi, Sep 14 (NationPress) In a remarkable move towards enhancing technology inclusivity, Union Home Minister Amit Shah distributed specially designed Artificial Intelligence (AI) glasses to differently-abled individuals during the Rajbhasha Conference held in Gandhinagar on Sunday.
This initiative is in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering "Divyangjan", or persons with disabilities, and aims to facilitate greater access to education, information, and daily communication for the visually impaired.
PM Modi has frequently emphasized that the term "Divyang" represents not just a label, but a symbol of respect and dignity for people with disabilities.
The AI-powered glasses are fitted with an in-built camera that scans printed text and converts it into audio output instantly, enabling visually impaired users to read and listen to various materials, including documents and books.
Beneficiaries shared that this device could be life-changing by bridging the knowledge gap created by their physical limitations.
One recipient, Jenil Parekh, expressed his gratitude while recounting his experience.
"These AI glasses provide us with numerous advantages. They will assist us in reading and learning. The integrated camera scans text, captures photos, and reads them aloud on our mobile devices. This technology is invaluable for individuals like us who are blind," he told IANS.
The Home Minister highlighted that such technological innovations not only enhance access to education and job opportunities but also empower Divyangjans to lead independent lives.
He also called on the public to contribute by donating AI glasses to visually impaired individuals, describing it as a transformative act of service.
Importantly, the overarching goal of this initiative is to ensure that technology serves as a catalyst for inclusivity.
By leveraging AI, the Union government aims to remove barriers faced by differently-abled communities and facilitate their full integration into society.
This initiative is viewed as a significant milestone in utilizing innovation for social empowerment, illustrating how India's tech-driven welfare strategies can create lasting change.
