Bhopal, May 14 (NationPress) In a remarkable advancement, the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhopal has launched a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) program in Pediatric Endocrinology.
This initiative positions AIIMS Bhopal as the third institution in India to provide this specialized course, with the only other institutions being AIIMS Delhi and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
The newly introduced DM program is dedicated to training specialist physicians to manage swiftly evolving hormonal disorders in children, including Type 1 Diabetes, growth abnormalities, thyroid issues, obesity, bone disorders, and other endocrine concerns.
During a program on Wednesday, AIIMS Bhopal director Dr. Ajai Singh announced this significant initiative, emphasizing its role in enhancing healthcare accessibility in the state.
"The DM course in Pediatric Endocrinology is more than just an academic milestone; it represents a tangible effort to broaden healthcare access. Through this initiative, we are establishing a framework for specialized services not only in Madhya Pradesh but across the nation," stated Dr. Singh.
In partnership with the state health department, AIIMS Bhopal will also provide technical assistance in setting up Pediatric Diabetes Clinics at the district level to bolster the healthcare system.
On this occasion, Dr. Mahesh Maheshwari, Head of the Pediatric Endocrinology unit at AIIMS Bhopal, shared with IANS that the course aims to train specialists who can understand and proficiently manage intricate hormonal conditions in children.
He underlined the pressing need for expert physicians in this domain, asserting that this program will aid in addressing that deficiency.
"This course signifies a considerable advancement towards ensuring the well-being of children," emphasized Dr. Maheshwari.
Speaking to IANS, Dr. Shikha Malik, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, noted that AIIMS Bhopal's department has been actively delivering specialized care for endocrine disorders in children.
"Our department conducts a ‘Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic’ every Tuesday and a ‘Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Clinic’ every Friday, which has positively impacted numerous children," Dr. Malik remarked.
