Mumbai, April 1 (NationPress) The leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Waris Pathan, launched a fierce critique against the Central Government regarding the expected introduction of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He accused the government of orchestrating a scheme aimed at undermining the minority community.
In an interview with IANS, the AIMIM National Spokesperson expressed that the underlying intention of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is to seize the assets of the Muslim community and strip them of their entitlements.
He expressed hope that the Waqf Bill would fail to pass in the House, asserting that the BJP does not possess the necessary support to advance the legislation.
"The BJP lacks a majority in the Lok Sabha. They will need backing from their allies such as JD(U), TDP, LNJP, and RLD. If this Bill is passed, Muslims will never forgive this government. It is unconstitutional and blatantly infringes upon minority rights," he stated.
Reinforcing his stance on Waqf properties, he emphasized that these assets are not government property; rather, they have been entrusted to the community by ancestors as a form of charity.
The AIMIM leader also warned of a nationwide protest if the Waqf Bill is approved, noting that Muslim organizations like AIMPLB have already expressed their opposition to the legislation by donning black bands during Eid celebrations.
Furious with the BJP, he claimed that it is a deliberate conspiracy by the party to seize Muslim properties and accused the Central government of being complicit in this act.
"The aim is not to implement reforms in the Waqf Bill but to dismantle the entire principle of landholding by Waqf Boards," he charged.
Waris Pathan's explosive allegations regarding the Waqf Bill come as the controversial legislation is set to be introduced in the House on April 2.
The BJP has already dispatched a directive to its members in the Lok Sabha, and with allies providing 'conditional' support for the legislation, it is anticipated to pass with ease.
