Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) - The Indian airline Air India has revealed plans to add 78 extra flights across nine routes from March 10 to March 18, 2026, in response to the ongoing challenges in West Asia. This strategic move aims to accommodate passengers amid the current circumstances.
Enhanced services will be available to major international destinations such as New York (JFK), London (Heathrow), Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Colombo, and Malé, resulting in an increase of 17,660 seats in both directions, as stated in Air India's announcement.
The routes include flights from Delhi to New York (JFK), Delhi to London (Heathrow), and Mumbai to London (Heathrow), aimed at providing crucial capacity as travel options remain limited.
Additional flights will also operate from Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Male, and Colombo back to Delhi.
Flights to European cities will utilize the B787-8 aircraft, while those to Male and Colombo will be serviced by the A320neo. The flights to New York (JFK) are pending necessary regulatory approvals and will operate using Air India's B777-300ER aircraft.
“Despite the challenges, Air India is committed to maintaining its scheduled operations to both Europe and North America, ensuring connectivity to key international destinations through alternative routes deemed safe,” stated Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India.
“We believe that travelers who need to reach these regions will value the additional options and the reliability that comes with Air India,” he added.
In light of persistent airspace restrictions in certain areas of West Asia, the airline had also announced additional non-scheduled flights on March 8. This includes extra flights between Delhi and Mumbai, as well as Dubai in the UAE. Furthermore, Air India Express will provide an additional 30 flights connecting various Indian cities to UAE destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah.
