Air India Launches 36 New Flights to Europe and North America Amid Rising Demand
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) Air India announced on Tuesday that it will launch 36 additional flights to Europe and North America starting this week, responding to a significant surge in demand for international travel due to the current geopolitical climate in the West Asia region.
These extra flights will connect Delhi and Mumbai with major destinations including London (Heathrow), Toronto, Frankfurt, and Zurich from March 19 through March 28.
This initiative will introduce over 10,000 additional seats across these routes, thereby increasing capacity and providing more travel options at a time when international connectivity is limited, according to the airline.
The new services will operate on the following routes: Delhi-London (Heathrow), Mumbai-London (Heathrow), Delhi-Frankfurt, Delhi-Zurich, and Delhi-Toronto.
This announcement follows Air India's recent decision to operate 78 extra flights on nine routes between March 10 and March 18 to accommodate rising demand.
Bookings for these flights are being progressively made available across all platforms, including the airline's official website, mobile app, and authorized travel agents.
Air India stated that this capacity enhancement aims to assist passengers amid the changing geopolitical conditions affecting travel demand and route access.
Previously, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) permitted temporary relaxations in flight duty regulations for Air India’s long-haul flights to Europe, the US, and Canada, as the airline has had to take longer routes due to airspace restrictions resulting from the Iran conflict, which has impacted operations and traveler movement.
In parallel, IndiGo announced last week that it will operate 252 weekly flights to and from West Asia between March 16 and March 28. This includes approximately 126 weekly flights to and from Saudi Arabia, 98 to and from the United Arab Emirates, and 28 to and from Oman during this timeframe.
However, IndiGo has indicated that flights to several destinations in the region—such as Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah—will remain suspended until March 28 as part of temporary network adjustments.
