New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) On Tuesday, India's flagship airline, Air India, successfully repatriated 149 stranded passengers from Dubai as part of its special mission amid the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. The flight, designated AI916D, touched down at Delhi Airport at precisely 10:58 am IST, as confirmed by the airline.
The aircraft, registered as VT-EDC, was tasked with bringing back a total of 149 individuals who had found themselves unable to leave Dubai due to the unstable conditions in the area.
This operation represents the inaugural flight by an Indian airline aimed at facilitating the return of passengers during the current Middle Eastern crisis.
“Air India is pleased to announce the return of stranded travelers from Dubai aboard flight AI916D, which arrived safely at 10:58 hrs IST at Delhi Airport. The aircraft, VT-EDC, successfully transported a total of 149 passengers,” the airline stated in an announcement.
“This flight marks the first initiative by an Indian carrier to assist in the homecoming of passengers amidst the ongoing Middle Eastern crisis,” it further added.
Earlier that day, another special flight, AI918D, successfully brought back 143 cockpit and cabin crew members from Air India and Air India Express who had also been marooned in Dubai.
They arrived in Delhi to the relief of the airline and their families.
Air India emphasized that its Operations Control Centre and supporting teams have been tirelessly working to facilitate these flights under challenging circumstances.
The airline ensured effective collaboration with all relevant authorities to ensure smooth operations.
Air India expressed its appreciation for the support and cooperation received from the Indian Government, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and local authorities in Dubai, which enabled the safe return of both passengers and crew members.
