Travelers from Dubai and Abu Dhabi Redirected Amid Gulf Airspace Challenges
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 3 (NationPress) As flight services slowly resume amidst turmoil in the Middle East, travelers heading back to India shared their experiences of arduous journeys and moments of anxiety. They indicated that life in cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi remains largely unaffected.
In an interview with IANS at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, passengers recounted how their flights were rerouted, temporary airspace closures caused uncertainty, and many decided to return home earlier as a precaution.
One passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi expressed gratitude towards the organized efforts that facilitated their return. "I want to extend my thanks to Air India and the entire leadership team for their hard work in bringing us back. There were 580 people from our company, and they are all on their way home; all of them are on the flight. Although the airspace is closed, we managed to get here," the passenger shared with IANS.
Another individual who traveled from Dubai mentioned needing to reroute their flight through Muscat due to the ongoing situation. "I was in Dubai for business and had to exit to Mumbai via Muscat. Currently, Muscat is the only exit point, which takes about 12 hours. I recommend that those stuck in Dubai consider the Muscat route for traveling back to India," he stated.
Similarly, another passenger arriving via Muscat described the atmosphere there as calm but filled with apprehension. "Everything seems normal—very peaceful. Yet, it’s unsettling because the conflict may escalate at any moment," he remarked, reflecting the underlying tension among travelers despite the apparent tranquility.
A passenger who recently arrived from Dubai noted that airport operations were limited but functional. "The journey was smooth. The airport is currently operating on a reduced scale. They are permitting people to enter with their flight tickets. Dubai resumed operations today, while Abu Dhabi did so yesterday," he reported.
Another individual returning from Dubai commended the city’s security measures. "Dubai was fantastic. Their defense system functioned incredibly well. We felt very secure. Even with the sounds, we felt safe. The residents of Dubai were exceptionally helpful," he added.
Meanwhile, a passenger coming from Oman conveyed appreciation for the local community. "I’m thankful for the kindness of the Omani people. They made excellent arrangements—everyone was very hospitable. We are just hoping for peace," the passenger said.
Travelers arriving in Mumbai expressed mixed emotions of relief and concern, as many chose to return home due to the uncertainties in the region.
