Jaipur, April 1 (NationPress) A young man sparked alarm at the Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz in Rajasthan on Tuesday when he entered the site armed with a sword.
The unexpected appearance of him wielding the weapon sent pilgrims into a state of panic, resulting in turmoil.
Taking advantage of the situation, another individual managed to seize the sword from him, though he sustained injuries during the attempt.
This incident unfolded around 11 a.m., leading to an hour-long disturbance.
The local police unit responded swiftly and detained the young man, who was subsequently taken to JLN Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Dargah CO Laxmanram reported that authorities received alerts about the suspect removing his clothing inside the Dargah and brandishing a sword.
He noted that the individual was quickly apprehended, and investigations are ongoing to discover how he was able to enter with the weapon.
Meanwhile, Syed Sarwar Chishti, Secretary of the Anjuman Committee, criticized the police for their apparent laxity, questioning how the young man could have brought a sword into such a revered site.
“The officers stationed at the entrance are preoccupied with their mobile devices instead of ensuring safety,” he asserted.
The suspect has identified himself as Alam Ali, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
In light of this incident, the security measures at the Dargah are now under review, as police personnel are stationed at the entry points continuously.
Furthermore, security checks are conducted by both the Dargah and Anjuman Committee employees.
Dargah CO Laxmanram confirmed that a team of 44 personnel from Tonk RAC has been deployed at the Dargah, primarily positioned near the open entrances.
A witness from Bareilly shared his distressing experience: “A young man suddenly appeared, drew a sword, and laid it on the ground before starting to remove his clothes. We immediately moved the women away from the vicinity.”
He recounted how another person acted quickly to disarm the suspect.
“I rushed in to assist and managed to restrain him, but I was injured in the process,” he added.
Authorities continue their investigation to determine the motives behind this action and to evaluate the security lapse that permitted such an event to take place.
