Chandigarh, April 7 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of engaging in a potential scam by allocating Rs 35 crore for the installation of 25,000 plaques for minor projects in Punjab government schools. This expenditure also includes holding ceremonies to publicly unveil these plaques.
In a statement, party representative Daljit Singh Cheema expressed disapproval over Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann delegating the task of overseeing these minor projects, including the transport of plaques and organizing parent-teacher meetings, to party officials from Delhi who have previously faced corruption charges and served prison sentences.
Cheema pointed out that the AAP government boasts 92 legislators in the state Assembly, yet has failed to find a qualified individual to manage this initiative, instead relying on Delhi leader Manish Sisodia and others. He claimed that the Chief Minister has been relegated to merely accompanying these Delhi leaders to schools and hospitals, while outsiders without any vested interest in governance dictate policies affecting local institutions.
Emphasizing that this initiative is primarily a means to misappropriate state taxpayer funds to benefit Delhi, Cheema stated, "The education model from Delhi has proven ineffective. There is no rationale in attempting to replicate it in Punjab, except to engage in corrupt practices."
Cheema also criticized the pressure placed on government school teachers to display plaques for trivial repairs, which he deemed a waste of valuable resources that could be better utilized to address over 60,000 vacancies and implement modern educational tools in government schools.
Furthermore, he condemned the AAP government for compelling teachers to act as social media promoters for the government. Teachers have reportedly been instructed to create accounts on Twitter and Facebook to share AAP government posts with specific hashtags, a tactic aimed at distracting the public from the government's various failures.
Cheema concluded with a call to the people of Punjab to unite in protecting the education sector from such detrimental actions by the AAP government.
