Akhilesh Yadav: 'Borders are Contracting'

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav voiced serious concerns on Friday regarding border security, economic inequality, and the treatment of minorities in the nation.

While addressing the Constitution Debate in the Lok Sabha, the Kannauj MP claimed that India’s borders are contracting due to supposed Chinese interventions.

“A sovereign nation must prioritize the protection of its borders. We are witnessing an infiltration of people, and the honorable minister is aware that our borders are indeed shrinking," he stated.

He remarked, “The Chinese Army has partially withdrawn its forces from our territories,” further mentioning the destruction of the Rezang La Memorial in the region.

“We demand to know if our territories remain under our control?” he questioned.

Yadav also paid homage to freedom fighters, victims of the December 13 Parliament attack, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, acknowledging him for his visionary contributions to the Indian Constitution.

“The Constitution we uphold today guarantees justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. India is a union of states, and we take pride in our unity in diversity," Yadav remarked.

He emphasized that the Constitution has unified the nation despite its diverse linguistic, regional, religious, and social backgrounds. Quoting Dr. Ambedkar, he highlighted that “the success of the Constitution hinges on its implementation by the legislature, executive, and judiciary.”

The SP chief characterized the Constitution as a shield that empowers the marginalized and oppressed.

“Defending our Constitution is vital for the poor, the downtrodden, and the vulnerable,” he asserted, adding that it has secured rights and justice for those overlooked by society.

He criticized the government for worsening economic disparities, contending that 82 crore Indians depend on government rations, while two-thirds of the nation’s wealth is “controlled” by a few affluent families.

“Those declaring us the world’s fastest-growing economy must also reveal statistics about the 60 percent living below the poverty line. Let the government disclose the per capita income of those struggling to make ends meet,” Yadav insisted.

Regarding the caste census, he stated, “The Minister mentioned that we can initiate a caste census if we choose to. As citizens, we were encouraged to conduct this census ourselves. I assure you that we will pursue this opportunity whenever it arises.”

“A caste census will not foster divisions; instead, it will bridge gaps and ensure justice and respect for those deprived of their rights. Thus, we wholeheartedly endorse this initiative,” he added.

The Samajwadi Party chief alleged that minorities, particularly Muslims, are being relegated to second-class citizens.

He cited a viral video of a policeman brandishing a weapon to deter women from voting in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections, commending the bravery of the women who “risked” their lives to participate in the electoral process.

Yadav charged the government with alienating citizens, leading to thousands renouncing their Indian citizenship under the NDA administration.

He contended that economic disparities are “obstructing” political justice and that “dissent is being criminalized”.

He claimed that certain factions are attempting to stir unrest by seeking temples beneath mosques. He expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for its recent intervention to temporarily suspend such activities.

In closing, Yadav underscored that justice cannot be achieved until “economic inequalities” are addressed.

“Our Constitution is the soul of democracy and the foundation of our nation. It is essential to safeguard it to ensure justice for all,” he concluded.
