Is the Constitution Being Undermined? Akhilesh Yadav Raises Alarm
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agra, Dec 6 (NationPress) The leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, on Saturday vehemently criticized both the central and Uttar Pradesh governments, asserting that there is a deliberate effort underway to undermine the Constitution.
Commemorating the death anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in Agra, Yadav described the Constitution crafted by Dr. Ambedkar as the “book of destiny” for the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak -- Backward, Dalit, Minority) communities, warning that attempts to erode its significance are on the rise.
He pointed out that without this Constitution, the marginalized sections would have encountered “unimaginable hardships.”
Yadav accused “dominant forces” of persistently belittling the PDA communities, referencing the incident where shoes were thrown in the Supreme Court as indicative of this troubling mindset.
He cautioned that undermining the Constitution poses a threat to both democracy and reservation policies. “Those with autocratic mindsets aim to govern the country according to their own perspectives,” he claimed.
The SP chief also made serious allegations regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asserting that there seems to be a significant emphasis on deleting names rather than adding them.
“For the first time, we are hearing that a constitutional body is more focused on removing votes than registering them,” he urged citizens to check their names in the electoral list.
Yadav confidently asserted that the SP would garner “historic support” in the upcoming Agra Assembly elections, emphasizing that the Agra Metro and expressway were significant achievements of the Samajwadi government.
“The BJP’s double-engine government has failed to construct even a single such road,” he remarked.
He further criticized the BJP government for the deteriorating condition of the Yamuna River, which he labeled as “reduced to a drain.” He vowed that if the SP is elected, they will rejuvenate the Yamuna akin to the Gomti River and develop a riverfront in Agra.
Yadav mentioned that the SP has refined its election strategy, committing to field candidates who genuinely serve the public.
He reiterated that Agra’s cultural identity—associated with the Taj Mahal, the Dargah, and its renowned craftsmanship—would be further promoted.
After presenting a chadar at the Dargah of Sheikh Salim Chishti in Fatehpur Sikri, Yadav noted that the shrine epitomizes India’s composite culture.
“Our Indianness resides in this shared culture and brotherhood,” he emphasized. He prayed for peace, progress, and harmony in the nation and visited several monuments, including the Buland Darwaza.
