Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday commended the security agencies involved in the investigation of the Red Fort blast incident that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals on November 10.
The Minister made these remarks during the opening day of a two-day ‘Anti-Terror Conference’ organized by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the capital.
The explosion near the Red Fort was caused by terrorists who had packed explosives in a vehicle, which detonated while being operated by a suicide bomber close to a crowded traffic signal adjacent to the historic site.
In a related update regarding the Red Fort incident, a Delhi court extended the NIA custody of two defendants involved in the bombing case, which resulted in 11 fatalities and numerous injuries last month.
Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma approved the NIA's request to detain Yasir Ahmad Dar for an additional 10 days, while the other defendant, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, had his custody prolonged for eight days.
The NIA reports that Yasir Ahmad Dar, hailing from the Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, is the ninth individual to be apprehended in this case.
He was taken into custody in New Delhi under applicable sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The agency disclosed that Yasir played a significant role in the conspiracy behind the car bomb explosion that shook the national capital on November 10. He was an active participant in the plot and had pledged allegiance to carry out self-sacrificial missions.
During the anti-terrorism conference inaugurated by HM Shah, the Union Minister and various experts discussed the importance of creating synergies among different stakeholders to establish formal and informal channels for collaborative action against the threat of terrorism, in line with the ‘Whole of Government approach’.
On the initial day of the conference, HM Shah led specialists from operational, technical, legal, and forensic agencies in devising strategies to combat terrorism.
Experts at the conference will also address issues affecting national security and threats arising from terrorism, as stated by the premier anti-terror agency, the NIA.
