Will the Delhi court continue custody for the Red Fort blast suspects?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) A court in the capital has extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of two suspects involved in the Red Fort bombing incident that resulted in the death of 11 individuals and left many more injured last month.
Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma granted the NIA an additional 10 days to interrogate Yasir Ahmad Dar, while the custody of the other suspect, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, was extended for eight days.
The NIA has identified Yasir, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, as the ninth person to be arrested in connection with the case.
He was taken into custody in New Delhi under the relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
According to the NIA, investigations have uncovered Yasir's significant involvement in the conspiracy linked to the car bomb explosion that shook the national capital on November 10. The agency stated that he actively participated in the plot and had pledged to carry out self-sacrificial missions.
The NIA also asserted that Yasir maintained close communication with other accused, including Dr. Umar Nabi, the deceased perpetrator of the attack, and Mufti Irfan.
Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, hailing from Baramulla, is the eighth individual to be implicated in the case and was apprehended by an NIA team in Delhi on December 9.
The agency claims he knowingly aided Umar Nabi by providing logistical support and is accused of tampering with evidence related to the terrorist act.
The NIA is diligently pursuing its investigation into the broader conspiracy behind the deadly explosion and is collaborating with various central and state agencies to trace all connections.
Earlier this month, extensive searches were conducted at the residences of several suspects in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the seizure of digital devices and other incriminating materials.
These activities followed similar searches at the homes of primary suspects Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Gania and Dr. Shaheen Saeed in Faridabad, Haryana.
The probe agency has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
