New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday took a pointed jab at the Congress party after it once again failed to secure any seats in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, attributing this disappointing performance to the party's tendency to worship its own family.
The results from the voting on February 5 for the 70-member Delhi Assembly revealed that the BJP garnered a commanding victory by securing 48 seats, while the AAP claimed 22. In stark contrast, the Congress party did not win a single seat.
Taking to X, the former BJP president stated: "The Congress serves as a prime example of what befalls a party that prioritizes worshipping its own family. In Delhi, where Congress once held power for 15 years, it has failed to open its account in the six elections conducted since 2014.
"In this assembly election, Congress lost its deposit in 67 out of 70 seats. If Rahul Gandhi's Congress has found stability anywhere, it is at zero (in terms of stability). This reflects the overall plight of Congress nationwide, which remains devoted to serving one family."
In response to the Delhi Assembly election outcomes, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, remarked on Saturday that he acknowledges the mandate given by Delhi, affirming that the "struggle for the rights of Delhiites will persist".
On X, the Congress leader expressed, "We humbly accept the mandate of Delhi. Sincere thanks to all Congress workers in the state for their commitment and to all voters for their backing. This fight for the advancement of Delhi and the rights of its residents – addressing pollution, inflation, and corruption – will go on."
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also shared his thoughts on the Delhi results.
He commented on X: “The collapse of a segment of so-called liberals is utterly strange. They did not offer these lectures on opposition unity to AAP when the party campaigned in Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, etc., to contest elections and undermine the anti-communal, secular vote.”
“Many liberals are justifiably celebrating the end of the facade so that the true champion of liberal values – the Indian National Congress – can emerge stronger to challenge and defeat the BJP,” he added.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav also reacted to the election results on X.
“The outcome of the Delhi Assembly elections clearly indicates that the people of Delhi have rejected Arvind Kejriwal's deceptive politics. We will assess our shortcomings and errors and will continue to serve the people of Delhi, standing with them at every moment. The mandate of the people is paramount,” he stated.
