Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday strongly contested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister D.K. Stalin's assertion that the Centre was withholding financial support to the southern state, revealing that the government led by PM Narendra Modi has allocated over Rs 5 lakh crore since 2014.
Between 2014 and 2024, Tamil Nadu received Rs 5,08,337 crore, which is notably higher than the allocations during the UPA administration, he stated.
He also predicted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would secure victory in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections.
While inaugurating the BJP office in Coimbatore and e-inaugurating two additional district offices in Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram, the senior BJP figure urged party members to gear up for a BJP-led NDA government in the state.
He underlined that the future government would eradicate nepotism and corruption, paving the way for development.
Focusing on the ruling DMK, Minister Shah accused its leaders of being deeply entrenched in corruption.
He pointed out that one DMK leader was caught in a cash-for-jobs scandal, while another was linked to illegal sand mining and money laundering.
He also mentioned that some leaders were under investigation for disproportionate assets. “Those entangled in corruption should join the DMK,” he quipped.
The Union Home Minister further charged CM Stalin and his son, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, with raising distracting issues to divert public attention from real challenges.
He specifically noted CM Stalin’s call for an all-party meeting on March 5 to address the upcoming delimitation process.
Amit Shah reassured that Prime Minister Modi had previously stated that no parliamentary seats would be diminished for southern states due to the delimitation exercise.
He reiterated that the restructuring of constituencies based on population metrics would not impact the representation of Lok Sabha MPs from southern regions.
He accused the DMK government of unnecessarily stoking fears regarding the delimitation process to divert focus from urgent governance matters.
The delimitation exercise, anticipated for next year, has emerged as a significant point of contention between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Centre.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Stalin announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the matter.
