Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday countered Tamil Nadu Chief Minister D.K. Stalin's assertion that the Centre was withholding funds to the southern state, highlighting that the PM Narendra Modi-led government has allocated over Rs 5 lakh crore.
Tamil Nadu received Rs 5,08,337 crore between 2014 and 2024, which is significantly greater than allocations during the UPA era, he noted.
Shah also stated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to establish the government in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections.
During his remarks at the inauguration of the BJP office in Coimbatore, along with e-inaugurations of two other district offices in Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram, the senior BJP leader called on party members to gear up for a BJP-led NDA government in the state.
He stressed that the new government aims to eradicate nepotism and corruption, ushering in a new era of development.
In a pointed attack on the ruling DMK, Minister Shah accused its leaders of being deeply entangled in corruption.
He mentioned that while one DMK leader was implicated in a cash-for-jobs scandal, another was involved in illegal sand mining and money laundering.
Moreover, he indicated that some leaders are facing charges related to disproportionate assets. “All those engaged in corruption should join the DMK,” he quipped sarcastically.
The Union Home Minister further accused CM Stalin and his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, of raising distracting issues to divert public attention from significant concerns.
Specifically, he referred to CM Stalin’s call for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the upcoming delimitation exercise.
Amit Shah reassured that Prime Minister Modi has already clarified that no parliamentary seats will be reduced for southern states due to delimitation.
He underscored that the redrawing of constituencies based on population levels will not impact the proportions of Lok Sabha MPs from the southern states.
He accused the DMK government of unnecessarily escalating fears regarding the delimitation process to detract from urgent governance issues.
The delimitation exercise, anticipated to occur next year, has become a significant point of contention between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Centre.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Stalin announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the matter.
