Will NDA Government Rise in Tamil Nadu? Amit Shah's Bold Predictions!
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 4 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed unwavering confidence on Sunday that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will establish its government in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly elections, predicting that the current ruling party, DMK, will be decisively ousted by the electorate.
While addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘Tamilagam Thalai Nimir Tamilan Payanam’ yatra in Pudukottai, led by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, Shah urged the citizens of the state to “unite under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and embark on a transformative journey for Tamil Nadu.
He stated that the BJP, in collaboration with the AIADMK and other NDA partners, would soon create a robust coalition to form the next government in the state. “No matter how long it takes, we will terminate the DMK rule and ultimately eliminate it from power,” Shah asserted.
In a pointed critique of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Shah accused the party of failing to deliver on most of its electoral promises and claimed it had neglected the safety of women. He further alleged that the current government's main aim was to facilitate Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, in ultimately taking over as Chief Minister.
Reaffirming that the NDA would secure a majority in Tamil Nadu by 2026, Shah recalled that the BJP and AIADMK had previously contested elections together in 1998, 2019, and 2021. He claimed that although the two parties contested separately in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, their combined vote share could have resulted in victories in 26 parliamentary seats.
Countering claims that the NDA was “anti-Tamil,” Shah noted that it was during the Modi administration that Tamil was first introduced as an optional language in the IAS and IPS examinations, and that railway announcements in Tamil became commonplace. He also highlighted initiatives like the creation of a Tamil chair named after poet Subramania Bharati in Varanasi and the translation of the Thirukkural into 13 languages.
Shah accused the DMK government of infringing on Hindu religious rights, mentioning restrictions during the Ayodhya Bhoomi Pujan and controversial statements by senior DMK leaders regarding Sanatana Dharma. “In 2026, we must ensure NDA majorities in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu,” he concluded.
